FOR OVER 5 DECADES, HANSER’S HAS BEEN SUPPORTING THE DRIVERS OF MONTANA
What started as a two-bay service station has grown into a multi-site, multi-faceted corporation, but the heart behind Hanser’s remains the same: our customers are part of our family.
From the moment founder Ralph Hanser started our company in 1963, Hanser’s goal has been to make sure every interaction a customer has lets them know that they are valued, safe, and cared for, whether you’re connecting with our locations in Billings, Big Timber,
Columbus, Livingston, Lewistown or Hardin.
Ralph’s dream has always been to keep his family business, no matter how many acres it covers or how many staff it employs, as personal and connected as it was when it first began. A native Montanan, Ralph not only wants to ensure Montanans always have the service they
need, but also that their service would retain a true, local feel worthy of hardworking Montanans. Because Montana deserves the best, Hanser’s is dedicated to maintain an edge in new processes and procedures, and was an early pioneer in air-cushion recovery and mechanical technology. Our goal is always to make sure our customers have the best and most effective, cost-efficient means of caring for their needs.
Scott Hanser, Manager
Following in his father’s footsteps, Scott Hanser has
been managing our staff and business for over 30 years. A 1984 graduate of Billings Central, Scott attended the University of Wyoming and continued his stellar athletic career. His dedication and drive didn’t stop when he left the field, and he is a driving force for success in every aspect of the Hanser’s business. As the 2018 Billings Chamber of Commerce Supervisor/Manager of the Year, his dedication to his employees is unwavering. Scott’s presence fills a room, and those that are lucky enough to work with him wouldn’t have it any other way.

Spencer Hanser, Operations Manager/Strike Team Leader
As the eldest son in the Hanser’s family, the family business was a natural next step for Spencer Hanser. Spencer is inherently mechanical and quickly became an expert in rescuing anything on wheels. Spencer sits on the Montana Tow Truck Association Board of Directors and tirelessly advocates for the safety of tow truck first responders. His heavy-duty expertise is unmatched, and he helps train and guide many of our newly hired operators.
SHAWN Hanser, PAST Manager
Shawn spent over 25 years as an integral part of the leadership team at Hanser’s helping develop the transmission and automotive business into what it is today. Shawn was a strong leader and his positive personality is contagious. He was involved in many community activities and loved his time as president of Boulder Arrowhead baseball. A stroke in 2017 removed Shawn from the day to day operations but his passion and dedication can be felt throughout the organization on a daily basis.

Shel Hanser
Shel Hanser joined Hanser’s in 2023 as a second career, after spending 27 years in Catholic education as a teacher, coach, and administrator. During his 21 years as principal at Billings Central Catholic High School, the school was named one of the Top 50 High Schools in the United States, and Shel was awarded the Excellence in Educational Leadership Award from the University of Montana, the Award of Excellence from Montana State University-Billings, and the Legacy Award from Billings Catholic Schools. The passion that drove Shel in his first career remains strong in his second as he dedicates his time to working with his dad and brothers in promoting Hansers’ core values where, like in the old days, customers and employees are considered part of the family.
